bench development

this is the beginning development of my conceptual bench design in sketchup.
after doing this model, i think the general model of the repeated shape works, but i want it to twist to create more stability and visual appeal.  the concept is to create an illusion of movement in relation to the concept of transmetamorph and the train.

more inspiration

more product inspiration

i have decided that i definitely want to do a bench for my individual focus on product design.   i want the bench to serve as a break in those places of transition and outdoor moments that we have within our building design.  i did quite a bit of searching today and found many inspirational images as i begin my design process...

the form

after getting out some individual thoughts, jimmy, jessica, and i, discussed our ideas with one another and were able to model a building form together that we feel best represents our program and ideas for the design.  so this is our final building form ("this is concrete!"...not literally).
after getting a solid building form, we did some sketches individually of how the form may relate to the site (entrances, etc.).
it was a very productive afternoon for the three of us!

individual brainstorming

after the feedback we got on thursday about our building form, we decided to significantly scale down the building size.  i think it was much better that we started off big and fearless and had to get smaller, rather than starting of small and timid and struggling to get bigger.
jessica, jimmy, and i met friday and did some individual brainstorming for the first hour about what this smaller building form may look like relationally.
